Secret BJJ move that cannot be defended

(crosspost from BJJ Globetrotter)

It's been a while since I wrote, that if I got 1000 likes on my FaceBook page, I would post a video of a technique that cannot be defended. I reached the 1000 likes a while back, but the video took a while to get online. It is finally here, and you can enjoy a move, that I still haven't found any defense for.

Me and my friend have actually pulled this off in competition a few times. Depends on the mood of the referee, his nationality and your nationality, but sometimes we have gotten away with it. I don't think it states anywhere in the rules that you cannot do this?

(All credit goes to my good friend Chris Haueter, who demonstrated this move on one of the first VHS instructional tapes I ever saw)

Hahaha, I saw this ages ago too, but never ever tried it. I think I will do so next class. My only concern is to leave my neck exposed as I fumble around behind his back, but if done quick enough, a very neat trick and definitely allowed in the rules imo.

It is legal. Saw it done before in comp. Ref had that "What da heck" look on his face but he allowed it. Look, if you can grab the belt for sweeps in the sitting guard, you can do this.

Respect! Our old instructor Karl used to call this the old school escape.

clumsy as I am, I can just see myself putting too much pressure on my knees (or even slipping with my foot inside the belt!) and hurting myself!

Yes. I AM that clumsy.

Many thanks for this Christian

is that the Jiggy Jig mount escape?

I emailed IBJJF and asked about it. They said that it was illegal and they also said, that nothing was written about it in the rules. Gotta love this sport :D

As long as the belt stays tied/attached around the waist you can use it any way you wish, including choking your opponent. I would rule this movement completely legal.

It looks like you're putting your knee in some danger though...

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is undoubtedly the best choice for men, and women alike, who are looking to prepare themselves for a self defense situation. Size doesn’t matter in Best BJJ in Connecticut, the gentle art teaches techniques that allow a woman or even a small child to protect themselves against a much larger or aggressive attacker.
